About the Ulju Folk Museum

Ulju-gun built the Ulju Folk Museum in order to systematically preserve and pass on local culture and revitalize the tourism of the onggi village. Borrowing Samgwang Branch School after the closure of Onyang Elementary School in Onyang-eup, Ulju-gun moved the Ulju Local History Museum into the museum of the onggi village as of 2001 and then extended it before the start of the opening on May 2nd, 2013.
It is meaningful that most of the exhibits contain items voluntarily collected by the supportive people in Ulju-gun and Onyang-eup.

About Exhibition Hall

  • The 1st Exhibition Hall
This hall shows agricultural and fishery cultures, traditional craftwork and folk plays. In the Agricultural Life Hall, miniatures represent four seasons of the traditional rural area along with traditional agricultural tools such as harrows, plows, and sickles. The Fishery Hall shows the old Ulju as a whole, with artifacts used by female divers and fishing gear such as sailboats, harpoons, and kiddles used in the Ulju region. In addition, it explains Ulju craftwork and folk plays by displaying relevant artifacts.
  • 2nd Exhibition Hall
The Custom and Culture Hall shows diverse artifacts used in the traditional wedding ceremony and funeral rites, and traditional markets along with mannequins, pictures, and more. In particular, there is the recreated silver grass roof house, the Ulju’s traditional housing form. In fact, the Housing Culture Hall exhibits all the old housing forms. This reproduces the real inside structure of a kitchen with a kitchen furnace, an anbang (main room), and daecheong (main floored room) and sarnag-bang (reception room for a male guest).
